FAQ
Q1. What track cleaning fluids can I use on a Gumbuster?
A. You can use any brand name track cleaner such as Aero-Locomotive Works ACT-6006 and also: CRC 2-26, Sprayway Rubber Cleaner and Rejuvenater, Whal clipper oil, Goo-Gone, Rail-Zip, Mineral spirits, refined lamp oil, LPS-1, WD-40, and so on. Some of these are lubricants that can cause a lose of traction if not dried from the wheels.
Q2. When do I need to replace the foam plastic?
A. You never replace it. We haven't had a Gumbuster wear out yet so the life time has not been established yet. Some boards are approaching seven years in age.
Q3. What kind of power supply do you need to operate a Gumbuster?
A. You use whatever power supply that runs your trains. No modifications are needed either to your trains, power packs, or to your track.
Q4. Do I have to dry my train wheels before I set them back on the track?
A. No, It is not necessary, the trains will run well wet. Track cleaning CARS soak the rails with cleaning fluids while trains are running so the cleaning fluids are not harmful on wet wheels. BUT, you may develop a loss of traction from the fluid being on the wheels. That would only be solved by drying the wheels. Also, if your rails are not clean you may end up transferring dirt from the dirty rails back onto your cleaned wheels.
Q5. Will a Gumbuster remove oxide from my train wheels?
A. Yes, only if you use Rail-Zip on the Gumbuster to dissolve that oxide.
Q6. Will a Gumbuster harm traction tires?
A. No, the foam plastic is much softer than the traction tire so no damage is possible.
Q7. Will a Gumbuster fix a broken engine?
A. No, the engine must run before it can be cleaned on a Gumbuster. But, dirty wheel treads WON'T stop the Gumbuster from cleaning the wheels! The Gumbuster can improve the electrical pick up from the wheel wipers on the wheels or axles because the cleaning fluids usually work their way into these contact areas.
